BCMHSUS Physician Peer Support Program

Where physicians connect and care for each other.

Colleagues Who Truly Understand

Working within BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services can be deeply rewarding, yet also challenging and isolating. The BCMHSUS Physician Peer Support Program offers physicians a safe, confidential space to connect with colleagues who truly understand their experiences. This Peer Support Initiative, led by the BC Mental Health and Substance Use Engagement Societies, provides casual emotional support for physicians facing challenges such as burnout, work-life balance, ethical dilemmas, or career concerns. Whether dealing with workplace frustrations or simply needing someone to listen, this program is here to offer understanding and judgment-free support.

The BCMHSUS Physician Peer Support Program provides physicians with a chance to connect, alleviating feelings of loneliness and offering the opportunity to speak with a colleague who truly understands. The Peer Support Initiative through The BC Mental Health and Substance Use Engagement Societies is aimed at offering casual emotional support to physicians within BCMHSUS dealing with work or life-related challenges such as burn out, work/life balance or ethical or career dilemmas.

The peer support team includes physicians from the Forensic, Corrections, and Adult Mental Health Engagement Societies. Each team member has completed training to offer colleagues a safe, confidential space for short-term, judgment-free conversations. These supportive exchanges are designed to help physicians navigate challenges, share experiences, and feel understood by someone who truly knows the demands of the work.

Support can be accessed in whatever way feels most comfortable, whether reaching out for yourself, referring a colleague, or connecting anonymously. The process is simple and discreet, ensuring privacy every step of the way. All conversations and inquiries are kept strictly confidential, creating a safe space to share openly without fear of judgment or breach of trust.
